My wife enjoyed her Shiraz (also recommended by Robert) and I, my Crown throughout the meal which we topped-off by sharing Eddie's scrumptious carrot cake. Based on a previous experience, we decided on the Chateaubriand (supported by Robert's guidance) and were not disappointed. We were seated promptly at 9pm with Robert as our very courteous and friendly waiter. The 3 bartenders were working furiously and everyone's patience was not stretched. People were 2-3 deep at the bar, and everyone at the bar was helping those behind them get their drinks. We purposefully arrived a half-hour early to enjoy a drink in their lively bar. We made NYE reservations about a week in advance for a 9pm seating, no problem. Maybe the specialness of the infrequency makes it all the better. We visit Eddie Merlot's about twice each year and each time we go, we ask ourselves why we do not go more often. Don't waste your time or money in this wannabe. Their incompetence is bringing down the entire restaurant. And while lots of apologies, and comping selection #4 is appreciated, it doesn't overcome the fact that management is not pulling their weight. Really?!? When did you do inventory and reprint your list? In 2010? While my Waygu ribeye was of good quality, and cooked to the correct temperature, it would have been better with some wine. 10 minutes go by before I was informed that they no longer had that wine in stock. Wrong! After reading through the list, and making a selection, I settled in anticipating my 2002 Jarvis Cab. When I go into a restaurant, and see the wine collection prominently displayed behind glass walls, I feel reasonable in assuming that the wine program is an important part of their business. The food is OK to good, but certainly not worth the price.
